A reliable forged tool-steel product depends on more than the selected grade. Heating control, forging reduction, deformation sequence and cooling practice all influence the internal structure of the finished material.
After forging, controlled annealing helps reduce hardness and internal stress so the material can be machined and prepared for subsequent heat treatment. Ultrasonic testing is used to check internal soundness, while metallographic inspection can be used to evaluate structural condition against the agreed requirement.
Sunbond records the applicable heat number and inspection information for each order. Final acceptance criteria should always be agreed before production and confirmed on the material certificate and inspection documents.
